Prevention

Oral hygiene, check-ups and fissure sealants to help prevent problems.

What is it?

Preventive dental care covers everything done to prevent problems rather than repair them afterwards. This includes regular check-ups, removing plaque and tartar, and sealing deep grooves in molars. Advice on brushing, cleaning between the teeth and diet is also part of it.

When is it needed?

A check-up is for everyone, even when you have no symptoms: tooth decay and inflamed gums often go unnoticed at first. How often a check-up makes sense for you depends on your mouth and your history. Fissure sealing is mainly discussed for molars with deep grooves, where plaque is hard to brush away.

How does it work?

During a check-up, the teeth, gums and soft tissues of the mouth are examined. If needed, X-rays are taken to assess areas that cannot be seen with the naked eye, such as between the molars. A cleaning is then carried out if necessary, and the dentist will discuss any further care that may be needed.

What to bear in mind

What you do at home determines a large part of the result: brushing every day and cleaning between the teeth every day. The technique and aids that suit your mouth differ from person to person, and the dentist will discuss this with you.

This page gives general information about the treatment. It is not advice about your own situation: what applies to you will be decided by the dentist after an examination. If you have a question or a complaint, please call the practice on (0032) 089 44 02 01.
