Invisalign is a system for moving teeth using a series of clear, removable plastic trays: aligners. They fit closely over the teeth, and each aligner is slightly different from the previous one, so the teeth move step by step. The series is custom-made based on a digital scan or an impression of your teeth.
Aligners may be discussed for crooked teeth, gaps between teeth or teeth that overlap. Not every tooth position can be treated well with them. Whether it is possible in your case, and whether another type of brace would be more suitable, is assessed by the dentist after examining your teeth and gums.
First, the teeth and gums are examined and your teeth are scanned. Based on this, a treatment plan is drawn up and the series of aligners is made. You change the aligners yourself according to the schedule you are given, and come in for check-ups in between. Aligners only work when they are actually worn; the dentist will discuss what this asks of you beforehand.
After orthodontic treatment, teeth tend to move back towards their old position. That is why aftercare is part of the treatment, for example with a retainer. The dentist will discuss what is needed in your situation, and for how long.
This page gives general information about the treatment. It is not advice about your own situation: what applies to you will be decided by the dentist after an examination. If you have a question or a complaint, please call the practice on (0032) 089 44 02 01.
